From the Casebook
"Just the Facts"
Our office can only provide students with basic facts from past cases. These are recent, real cases from Wash. U. that our office shares as a glimpse into the challenging decisions students must make. These cases don't tell the whole story, but they do draw the bottom line.
Delayed Medical School
A student with multiple minor infractions failed to disclose any of
the minor charges on her medical school application. After her record
was checked, she was forced to delay her application until she could
demonstrate that she had sufficiently matured and would be an
appropriate candidate for the medical profession.
Substance abuse issues in particular are taken very seriously by medical schools.
Revoked Admission to Law School
During his junior year, an undergraduate had a relatively minor
disorderly conduct charge in the judicial office; he was found in
violation and sanctioned. During senior year, he applied to law
schools, but he neglected to disclose the minor case on his application.
The case came to light during a background investigation. Ultimately
his offer of admission and acceptance was revoked by the law school.
